How to Choose a Bidet Seat in Australia

Bidet seats are now widely available in Australia, and the range has grown quickly. This guide covers everything you need to know before buying: electric versus non-electric, what a Korean bidet seat actually is, which brand and model suits your bathroom, how to check the fit, and what to expect from installation, warranty and shipping.

Electric or non-electric?

The first question is whether your bathroom has a power point within reach of the toilet.

An electric bidet seat gives you warm water washing, a heated seat and a warm air dryer. Higher-end models add an automatic deodoriser, oscillation, a night light and user presets you can save to a remote. These are the seats most people are thinking of when they picture a bidet.

A non-electric bidet seat runs entirely on your household water pressure. There is no cord, no outlet and nothing to switch on. You give up warm water, a heated seat and a dryer. What you keep is the wash itself, which is the part that actually matters. Non-electric seats are the simplest option for bathrooms without a power point nearby, and the easiest choice in a rental.

If you are not certain you will ever add an outlet, the Luelue LB6000 Hybrid sits between the two. Plugged in it gives you warm water and a heated seat. Unplugged it keeps working on tap pressure. It is a useful middle ground if you want to keep your options open.

What is a Korean bidet seat?

Korean bidet seats are electric seats made in South Korea, where the category has been mainstream for decades. Every Korean bidet seat we sell is made by DIB, and the range starts at $499. Some models use tankless instant heating with no reservoir to run out; others use a tank. Which brand and model?

We stock three brands: DIB, Luelue and Mr Bumwash.

• DIB: nine models from $499 to $1,499. The core C series covers warm water washing, heated seat and dryer. The N and U series are the ultra-slim models with the lowest profile on the pan. Models ending in R come with a wireless remote.
• Luelue: four seats plus one travel bidet. The LB5000 is non-electric and starts at $219, in round and D shape. The LB6000 Hybrid works with or without power at $549. The LB7000 Slim is the premium electric model at $999, with a dryer, oscillation and remote. The TB50 Travel Bidet at $25 is a portable bottle for travel rather than a seat.
• Mr Bumwash: two models at $749. A solid mid-range option with warm water washing, heated seat and dryer.

Will it fit my toilet?

Australian toilets come in round, D shape and elongated pans. Thirteen of our fifteen seats fit D shape, ten fit round and eight fit elongated, so it pays to check before you order, particularly for the Luelue LB5000, which comes in a separate round version and D shape version, and the D shape version lets you choose which side the water inlet sits on.

What about water pressure and temperature?

Electric bidet seats heat water internally, so your existing water pressure and temperature supply do not matter much. Non-electric seats rely entirely on your household cold water pressure. Most Australian homes have enough pressure to run them comfortably, but if your pressure is unusually low it is worth checking before you buy. Contact us if you are unsure.

What about installation?

Can you get funding for a bidet seat?

Bidet seats are recognised as assistive technology in both the disability and aged care systems in Australia. Under the NDIS they have their own support item, and every seat we sell sits under the $1,500 low-cost assistive technology threshold.
